One of our Research and Writing Team's many jobs is to create research reports based on technology, and more specifically, cybersecurity. We break down complex topics, highlight different perspectives, and share practical takeaways that matter. Our goal is to keep readers informed, prepared, and confident in a digital world.

How is Social Media Causing Unrealistic Standards & Expectations?

This research report explores the significant impact of social media on teenagers’ daily lives, mental health, and self-perception. While platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat provide opportunities for creativity, connection, and friendships, they also promote unrealistic beauty standards, curated lifestyles, and constant social comparison. These patterns have been linked to increased rates of depression, anxiety, body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and fear of missing out (FOMO). Social media often blurs the line between genuine success and performance, pressuring teens to measure self-worth by likes, comments, and followers. At the same time, positive perspectives show that responsible use of social media can cultivate friendships, provide emotional support, and encourage creative expression.
