Over 90% of leading businesses utilize AI. Artificial intelligence has become a prominent force in our everyday lives, making its way into businesses and homes alike. Now, two leading companies in the artificial intelligence industry–Nvidia and OpenAI–have just made history.

On September 22, 2025, Nvidia and OpenAI publicly announced their partnership. The two companies both have significant influence in the technology industry. Nvidia’s graphic processing units (GPUs) and OpenAI’s AI models have taken the digital world by storm. This partnership was an extremely strategic move in order to combine their resources and build up AI infrastructure for the future. Nvidia plans to invest in OpenAI, allowing them to have a significant financial stake in the company. In return, OpenAI will use the money to lease Nvidia’s GPUs for its data centers.

Nvidia plans to invest a whopping $100 billion in Open AI over time. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described this partnership as “a giant project” during his interview with CBNC. Nvidia’s initial investment will be $10 billion. Then, starting from the second half of 2026, 10 gigawatts of AI infrastructure will start to be developed using this money–that’s equivalent to over 4 million GPUs! Nvidia’s investment will fund these facilities, but both companies will benefit. Nvidia will gain revenue both from the use of their chips in the infrastructure and their financial relationship with OpenAI. OpenAI will be able to improve their own technology through these new developments; the infrastructure will help them develop more artificial general intelligence (AGI) and support their own models. It’s a win-win!

"Expect a lot from [them] in the coming months" Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO

As a result of this partnership, society is going to see a lot more AI in the future, whether it be in newer models or more hefty technological advancements. However, while this new, cutting-edge technology can truly benefit society, it does pose a few concerns.

  1. By having two titan companies join together, many people have posed concerns about antitrust violations. People fear that this partnership increases the risk of a monopoly in the artificial intelligence market.

  2. Due to developing so much infrastructure, the project will most likely be very costly and can take a lot of time and energy. The 10 gigawatts of infrastructure will require power equivalent to 10 nuclear reactors to be developed!

  3. Additionally, this partnership has been described as “circular.Bryn Talkington, a managing partner at Requisite Capital Management, stated that “Nvidia invests $100 billion in OpenAI, which then OpenAI turns back and gives it back to Nvidia.” People feel that this is just a way for the two companies to improve their numbers–while not actually making so much progress.

In our digital world, this partnership is one to be remembered. While there may be concerns about cost and company growth, OpenAI and Nvidia are actively working to support AI development and infrastructure. The future of AI has just been immensely affected, and only time can tell if we start seeing historic advances in artificial intelligence.
